Harold J. Bondehagen

Harold J. Bondehagen, 90, of Janesville, WI passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at the HospiceCare Inc. Inpatient Facility in Fitchburg, WI. Harold was born in Stoughton, WI on June 22, 1920, the son of Andrew and Carrie (Hillestad) Bondehagen. He graduated from Stoughton High School. He was a proud member of the 32nd Red Arrow Division during World War II. He received a purple heart for his service in the South Pacific. Harold married Dorothy Guse on August 3, 1945 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Janesville. He was formerly employed by the Milwaukee Road Railroad and retired from JATCO.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post # 1621. Harold enjoyed watching the Brewers, Packers and Badgers and was a nature lover. Above all, Harold’s family was his greatest love and joy.

Surviving are 6 children, Jill (Henry) McGlin of Milton, Jacquelyn Bondehagen, Janet (Randy) Albert, James (Marilyn) Bondehagen, Jean (Steve) Schultz, Jennifer Bianes all of Janesville, 6 grandchildren, Megan Bondehagen, Brittany and Rebecca Albert, Steve Schultz, Zachary (Becki) Schultz, Jasmine Bianes, 1 great-grandchild, Liliana Bondehagen, 1 sister, Marion Olsen of Madison, many nieces and nephews as well as his extended family in Norway. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy on March 15, 2005. Also preceding him in death are a son, Jack, a grandson, Patrick McGlin, his parents, a brother, Thomas and 3 sisters, Agnes, Cora and Janet.

Funeral services will be at Noon Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 1422 Center Ave., Janesville. Pastor Bruce Gray will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with military rites by Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post # 1621. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville and at the church on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of services. A memorial fund will be established.
